My paintings are a response to location and time spent within place and nature. The recent works are an attempt to record and re-imagine the fleeting and transitory effects of light.

I’m trying to imagine light as something tangible; as if you could pick it up and hold it in the palm of your hand. It feels like the territory where the real and the imagined co-exist.

The work engages with the uncertainty and fallibility of perception and the senses. I’m also interested in memory and misremembering, and how all these factors come into play when making a painting.

The actual process of painting itself- and how the paint behaves- plays an important part. These latest works are a balance between spontaneity and control.
